Opinion: The definition of Freedom

Define freedom is a very hard task, maybe impossible and always incomplete. But we must try, it should be an obligation! According to Thomas Aquinas: “If you do something because someone told you to do so, even God, you are not free. You are free when you do, or not, something because is good or bad”. This words lead me to a bible text about King Solomon. When God appears to him in dreams, He asked the king for a wish. That was a good opportunity to ask for richness, power or glory. Instead, the king asked for a sweet heart, enabling him to decide correctly between good and bad. This duality, the good and bad, represent one of the biggest challenges of mankind. In absolute terms, we will never know what is good or bad. Maybe the framework for the definition is religion, beliefs, culture, society… Who knows?
